DOMAINE BORIS CHAMPY - NANTOUX

Boris Champy believes that the Hautes-Côtes has an exciting future ahead of it, particularly thanks to their attitude within the context of global warming. Together with the neighbouring winegrowers, he is determined to continue building the reputation of the wines from this superb yet little-known winegrowing region.

During our last visit in April we walked the rows of the Clos 377 vineyard. The soils in this plot are white and stony with a high marl content. The soils look perceptively poor but the marly-clay provides it with an excellent water supply. Given its stony nature, one could joke that it’s a bit of "Chateauneuf-du-Pape" soil in Burgundy!

The History:

Didier Montchovet planted his biodynamic vineyard in 1984. Didier worked 9 hectares of biodynamic vines near the village of Bouze-les-Beaune, about 4km northwest of Beaune. His cellar was built to make maximum use of gravity, as a result, no pumps are used during the bottling process. Didier also has a system that recuperates rainwater, helping him conserve this natural resource during the spring and summer. Didier committed to making outstanding Biodynamic wines and the results of his efforts are a vibrant testimony to the harmony that can exist between winemaker and nature.

In 2019, without an obvious successor Didier passed the reins of his beloved winery to a talented young winemaker also from Burgundy, Boris Champy who was previously winemaker of the well-known Burgundy producer: Clos des Lambrays. Boris has continued Montchovet's philosophy in applying the biodynamic methods in the vineyad while adding his own personal touch to the wines.
